Link pin problems! Query

Unhelpfully the gear stick of my saxo decided to go all wobbiliy in the middle of a petrol station this morning - I called direct line and they sent a guy out who fixed the problem in about 3 minutes by putting the link pin (which had come lose) back in.

The man suggested replacing the link pin as a more permanent repair. the car now works fine - so my question is - is the car kay to drive to Birmingham (i'm in Cardiff) tonight and back tomorrow morning - or am I at serious risk of losing control of my gear box on the motorway?

The final choice is obviously with yourself. But you have been warned to re-new the linkage so that will be the best option and hopefully the end of the problem. If you decide to go without re-newing the linkage, did you notice how the guy did the repair? did you have to jack the car up?, or will you be travelling in the dark? Get the job of re-newing it before the journey I think.

yeah he jacked it up - but I don;t think I'd need to (I'm but a wee 5'2 - and could reach the part he fiddled with from above ratehr than below) though yeah you're probably right - taxi and the trian for me I suspect ya boo! (much prefer driving).

Apparently issues with the linkage in saxos are fairly common - I don't suppose other than getting apermanent repair you can think of any other way to avoid it? I have to say my baby is a tad old and this is the first real issue I've had with her in a year and it's a fairly minor issue at that - so it does say somethign for saxo mechanics.
