Important! : How To guide: Start button pod in heater vent

  1. #1
Just thought i would put this up as i havent seen it done yet so here goes....

I took my drivers side heater out and started creating a pod for my push start button as i couldnt find anywhere else to mount it that was near the ignition but in view for people to see.

This is the link for the start button i used......http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

First i covered the heater surround with (womens tights) streched them on tight (sorry i missed the picture of this bit lol)

    No pic

Then i covered it in fiberglass and left to dry hard.

Once dried i trimmed the excess tight from the edge of the surround.

I then drilled a small hole so the start button would sit centered.

I then made this backing plate up (made out of a dvd case as you can cut out the round hole the dvd sits on

I then glued this to the back of the heater surround. This will do two things strengthen it and also give a guide as to where to cut the hole out.

Once glue had dried i drilled the hole out with the biggest drill bit i had i then used a socket bit with 180 sandpaper wrapped around it to round off the hole.

Now the hard bit is done its just a case of adding some filler and smoothing it i used 240 grit its now ready for primer.

looking good, be nice to see when finished, what have you done to the blower behind though?

I will add more pics of it primed ,painted and wired up as it goes along.

This is only a guide use it at you own risk

There are lots of start buttons on the market the only thing you will need to do is change the hole size depending on the size of the starter button.
