Changing discs and pads

  1. #1
    Hello,
I remember seeing on here a good pivture guide on changing discs and pads on here, but can't find it now. anyone know where it is or even better post the link to it.

The pads need changing when they reach 2mm right?

how do you know when the discs need changing?

i am looking to change them both before it's service and MOT. It is coming up to 75000 which is the cam belt service so i want to get everything as good as i can get to keep costs down.

it is a 2001 VTS with ABS.

What discs and pads do i need? looking at some off of e bay again to keep costs down

    cheers

Haynes manual is what you need

You measure disc thickness to see whether you need new ones.

I'd just buy new discs and pads (as you are changing pads anyway) - mintex always seem to be good for standard cars

would this be sensible or just plain syupid considering brakes are what 'save' you?

    I'd go with these:

but only because I've had no problems with Mintex, they fit spot on

    Quite easily Changed mate

    Pop the wheel off

Take the cap off the Brake reservoir

Take out the pins on the Pads

If you can't change the Disc with the calliper still on, Undo the 2 bolts/nuts on the back of the calliper... This will release the front have of the Calliper.

    Undo securing bolt on Disc

    Replace Disc

    Re-assemble in reverse order

Remember To press in the pad compressor thing so you can get the new pads on.

I may have missed out a few things... But you get the jist... I done mine like a year ago!

The main advantage of the haynes manual is it has torques in the front of the sections, and the descriptions of how to do things is pretty good.

Plus some of the pictures can be helpful!!
