VTR Gearbox

   My gearbox has a knocking noise (really fast knock that is) in first and has started to move to the second gear. Any ideas on what the problem may be?
   
   I was looking at getting a refurb but don't know where to go?

   I'd get a new gearbox from a reputable member/decent breakers, getting a box refurbed is extremely expensive and not worth the hassle for a VT box, maybe a rallye/XSI or quaife.

   You sure it is gearbox, never heard of them making a knocking sound. Driveshafts knock when there worn though and will click when turning on full lock.

   My gearbox has sorta the same problem it makes a sound only that i can describe as knocking and putting her into 2nd gear can be a pain.
   I'm thinking of getting a new box but just need to find one of someone decent. So your not alone matey

   All I am saying (which you seem to have not read) is that it might not be your gearbox at all. It would suck to waste money on a new box if it does not fix the problem.

   Had the same prob mate pulled out of the garage on monday morn and my drive came out i taught it was the gearbox but it was the drive shaft

   have you had a look at your gear linkages first?
   dont know what the knocking noise could be but if its hard putting in to gears your linkages could be contraputing to it

   my dad jus corrected me, its not a knocking noise but a whining noise... sorry for my rubbish explanation

   yep whining noise is you gearbox on its way out
