    Superprint 4-2-1 or piper 4-1

Id seriously consider the Supersprint its alot of money but worth it as your dont have to relocate the oil filter and the quality is very good!

    As above, two awsome manifolds!

Will compliment your exhaust system well and the gains should be noticable.

all a de-cat does is loose performance and is illegal and makes the exhaust to loud

but this depends on when the car was first registered if 93 then the car needs a cat but if December 31st 92 then might not need a cat,
what is the first thing a mot tester does when you/me take a car for a mot?

i have even tried a decat and my exhaust was really loud hurt my ears, did you know you can mod a standard cat and no i dont mean take the insides out

Im not denying the lagality part nor the noise. Its the "all a de-cat does is loose performance " part. Its been proven time a time again that a decat will give you a noticeable increase in throttle response and a very minor increase in power, due to there being absolute minimal restriction in the exhaust system. You would only see power loss if your also using a massive backbox!

What the hell are you on about? why would derestricting an exhaust system reduce power. Provided you don't have a 5'' bore all the way through with no backpressure then its obviously gunna help breathing. The decat kits sold for any car are tested and made to increase power.

You must have been sucking on an exhaust pipe too long to think that!

Ill add: You would see better gains with a full system not just replacing the cat with a de-cat pipe on a standard set-up.

when i went for a mot the first thing the mot tester did was looked straight under the car to see if the cat converter was there and he said no cat converter no mot, if operation utar pull you over and they find you have no cat converter you get 7 days to fix it then you need to go for a mot when the mot tester has passed your exhaust system they sign the paper then you go to the police station then they sign the paper then you are allowed to be back on the road, some one on another forum got done for a loud exhaust they gave him seven days to fix the problem and had to have a mot retest to make sure the job was done and get the papers signed then had to got to the police station to get paper worked signed then he was allowed back on the road

    got pulled yesterday

suffolk and essex police were doing a region wide operation yesterday called "operation utar" which involved pulling random cars and going over every inch of them along with VOSA to make sure they are road worthy, insured and taxed etc...

obviouly they thought they could get somthing on my astra so pulled me over, i got told to follow them to a facility they had set up behind asda so they could test my car. when i got there they had a whole carpark set up with barriers and lanes coned off to test cars, im not joking there must have been about 30 vehicles from trucks down to bikes there being done when i was!

so the coppers and a VOSA inspector went over everything on the car and checked with my insurance company to make sure everything is declared (obviously it is).

only thing they found was the loud exhaust they Db tested it and it was 85 on idle and 98 at 3.5K revs. according to the sergent doing the test it can be "no louder than the same car with the same engine fitted with a serviceable standard silencer"

my argument was that there was never a vauxhall astra fitted with a LET (i didnt tell him about the 200TS ) so there is no car to compare it too, he was having none of it though and he got the VOSA guy to issue a prohibition notice for it which means i have to get a quieter exhaust and a FULL MOT in 7 days to get it lifted

rarther then de cat just spend the money and get a sports cat then u will get a good preformance boost with out it being totally illigal and plus some cars run slower when decated like my m8 in is clio rsi found out lol

we know when you de-cat you wont pass an MOT and its ilegal, were not trying to say that were just saying with the right exhuast system it will give noticeable gains

As long as your car's low enough, the coppers will never know

I have a raceland 4-1 exhaust manifold for the vtr mk2. Its easy to fit, as you dont have to relocate the oil filter. Its also quite a bit cheaper than the other mk2 manifolds.

Yeah of course it will fail the mot with a de-cat, thats why you keep your cat and change it before the mot .. its not like mission impossible, its just common sense, i got pulled the other day by undercover and the said my exhaust was fine and i have a straight through system atm.. i am going to change it as i dont like the sound thanks for the decent replys for what i asked people

For all your info it is not illegal to de-cat your car. Its Just frowned upon, that law with the registered car 93 and all that just means cars produced after 1993 will have a cat converter onit from factory. The only reason why an MOT tester will show you the door straight away is because its extremely hard to pass the emissions test without a cat converter BUT it can be done. I asked this question to the admistrator of the UK MOT/vosa/dvla website. + My car is de-catted it's not loud.
