De catting, to loud?

    Any opinions as to de catting being to loud for general road use?

    decated my mk1 vtr and to be honest its not bad at all.

    well i got a jap speed system and when i decated mine it sounded not much louder but nice a raspy but it was to fummy for me so i put the cat back in and im gonna buy a sports cat now instead like

    I got the full supersprint exhaust system with mid silencer replacin the cat and its mint. really purrs when cruising around and gives a nice raspy naughty sound when u boot it.

    Yea i admit it is a bit fumy, but what do you expect lol ?

    mines only 'loud' when i hit 2500rpm. for town use, you should be below that anyway and wont look as much of a tit as if your bombing it around everywhere.

    but it al depends what your definition of loud is tbh like my car is a nice tone now when i decated it yes it was nice but i do alot of motorway driving because i run my own car club so it just got on my nerves in the end i think that is the real reason i took it out

    Yea i mean you shouldnt be too bothered about the noise if you de-cat the car because obviously your after less of a restriction .. more flow, and adding more performance anyway and , so you have to balance things you know?

    i have a 4-2-1 manifold, supersprint race centre section (no cat no silencer) and just a shitty 106 1.1 back box and its not loud at all most of the noise is released when you change the back box if all your doing is taking the cat out i wouldn't have thought it would make any difference to the sound

    no it probs wouldnt but if u have a back box then obv it will like i said before it is about definiton of loud every ones opinions on what is loud is different

    true. when i bought me saxo it had the worlds loudest exhaust made from scratch it looked like.... well a piece of shit. now ive got a complete supersprint set up its so much more quieter, sportier, jus really decent.

    But then again theres loud... and theres LOUD you know?e.g. lowered VW polo, R reg, football sized exhaust, cape town music and all that. shocking

    yer there is loud and then LOUD you have to find a healthy balence because i think to loud is stupid

    i run a 4>2>1 cast iron manifold but with ported headers and ported where the down pipes bolt to then this runs into a 50mm inside diameter front pipe then my cat has bigger inlet and out let pipes on then the centre box is straight though type design and has 55mm inside diameter baffle then the back box not standard so i need the cat to keep the noise/sound down and to add some back pressure, standard exhaust was only 36mm inside diameter

    What do you think of saxsport? they are such a nice comp. system but from videos you can't really tell how loud they are in reality if you get me

    Decatting doesn't exactly make a car much louder, yes it makes a difference but not much, if you went for something like a supersprint silenced centre section then you'd be fine.

    Very true, its brilliant quiet and obviously reduces the restriction from having a cat

    Saxsport should be fine. Unless you sit at well over 3k everywhere.
