What is this sensor?

   Its on a mk1 black top engine it bolts onto the body just under the driver window. Its a small black box with 1 pipe going to it and one connector?
   
   I have just broken mine and need a new one.

   Is it piped in the intake system? e.g does the intake air have to pass through it before the inlet manifold?

   got a picture? MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor comes to mind with me also.

   From what you described its in the engine bay yet under the drivers window.

   It has one vacum hose going to it and then just a 3 plug sensor

   They are soo hard to find. Only one on ebay and its £89! Any suggestions on where I could get another from?
   
   What woiuld happen if I ran without one?
