starter motor - your's bolted on all okay ? etc

    mine occasionally does this

I've got a new starter motor to go on at some point
  3. #3
its fully bolted on mate , never had an issue before

    getting really fustrated now lol

what could it be doing that isn't starting, does it have to be lined up with the fly wheel a certain way?
  4. #4
thats the starter motor solenoid dead. new starter motor job done. i have a very good one going cheap
  5. #5
    fuckkkkkk

how has it died i literally havn't done a thing to it

    how much are they mate
  6. #6
have you tried hitting starter with a hammer.?
  7. #7
could it also be a worn flywheel?

ie. the starter motor is slipping over the new flywheel?
  8. #8
Plenty of life in the battery and the starter is earthed properly and connected etc?

Mine occasionally does this because the earth is loose and i never seem to find the time to tighten the nut lol.

If you do replace your starter motor i have one for £20 posted btw but i dont think thats the problem.

    Edit after watching the vid****

Pop the car into gear and rock the car with the handbrake off, sounds like the starter isn't engaging properly at all!

what would that do lol , i took it back off and it looks fine , the wheels still moves fine

it would turn the flywheel slightly onto an unworn bit and then the starter should grip and you're away.

It would do this and help the starter mesh onto the flywheel.

106 1.1 i bought from an auction once had this same problem.

my fiesta did, replaced the starter motor and that helped but still had to replace flywheel as it persisted. was constantly asking people to rock me on carparks haha.

sounds so wrong but you get the idea

flywheel will be fine, simply swap the starter motor. It could be a bad earth but unlikely. £28 delivered for a 42K MINT starter motor

kk mate i'll have that one then , is there any reason why it's all of a sudden stopped working literally never had a single issue with it
  16. #16
Same problem with my old 205 (tu engine), put car in gear and roll it a bit then fine. I was convinced it was a worn flywheel but now after a few years experience it could bell be a starter motor issue as well. As above, turn engine a fe degrees and try again but you might as well put a new starter on because it will only get worse.

imo doesnt sound like something is earthed properly which is why its not starting, starter motor seems fine as you can here it trying to crank the engine over

the only earth is on the gearbox that i know of?

    its unlikely that the starter has just packed up after changing the clutch, have you connected the two lives in the right place there should be a chunky cable to the starter and a thinner one to the solenoid {sounds like this isnt connected properly}. I no its probably obvious but did you disconnect battery before starting the job {fuses}

there are 2 connected to the bigger bolt (13mm bolt) and one connected to the smaller bolt(8mm)

battery was first thing to come out so all fuses should be fine

it is very unlikely the starter has died i wouldn't by one yet

if i remember correctly the two wires that go on together have different sized holes in the ferrule check they are on the right way.

you could take the starter back out and test the solenoid for operation with some jump leads

after lots of messing around i got it started , and it won;t start again now lol
  23. #23
remove and replace your starter just to make sure you didnt mis anything

have done lol , whats to miss

1small wire to the small bolt

1 large wire from battery to the large bolt
1 medium sized wire to the large bolt ,

    earth to gearbox

    3 bolts holding it on
  25. #25
time for the new motor now
  26. #26
just got it going again and it drove amazing much more responsive than before, stopped on drive , started it again no problem, stopped , and it wouldn't start lol

Its nwt 2 do with ur starter motor if it wont bump start m8
  32. #32
right what do you mean by bump start?
  33. #33
push it down a whacking great hill with ignition on, clutch engaged, gear 1, when upto decent speed disengage the clutch and it'll turn the engine over and probably start.

As said before, i had this problem with my fiesta. replaced the starter motor, it would work sometimes and other times it wouldnt. There was a flat spot on the flywheel meaning that sometimes it gripped and sometimes it didnt.

i seriously think this is your problem. I've had this for 3 years and the flywheel fixed it. same noises as yours makes and same symptoms.

Just my input but i'm only a "newbie" so think of it what you will.

i'm checked the whole wheel manually mate and there aren't any damaged teeth on it

i'll see how far i get bump startin tomorrow but starter will hopefully do it
  35. #35
fair enough! no idea then buddy!
bump start might help though. do you understand how to do it now i've explained roughly?

i would bump it in 2nd gear as well if it does start then u probley got a faulty starter motor ')
