Clicking Noise

I recently had my Cambelt/Waterpump/HG changed.

It happened because I was a fool and didn't do my rad reservoir up tight enough on a long journey and forced her home, having to stop every 5 miles. It was during a blizzard so I had little choice.

Anyway when I was driving that day, my engine was seriously over heating and it started to make a really prominent clicking sound, which is when I stopped and let her cool down.

Now after getting all of this stuff changed, now when I drive the noise it made that day is always there, but a lot quieter.

The faster I go the faster the noise is, and it only happens when I am in gear. It is quite subtle, but should I be worried about it?

I guess the best way to describe it would be a kid running along a metal fence with a stick, and it makes my car sound like a diesel!

A quick note too, probably unrelated but worth a mention, my starter motor is being lazy and needs replacing, so starting the car is a bit more hassle than before.

I have driven on small journeys, but not gone above 60 yet, and a bit apprehensive about driving on the motorway tomorrow. Car seems to be driving fine, its just the noise worrying me.

You need to identify if the noise is coming from the top of the engine or the bottom. Use a long screw driver/wooden spoon or something and press it against your engine an your ear (neighbours will think your a bit mad!). Top end will prob be valve clearences (aka taoppits) that need adjusting and can be done at home with a haynes. Bottom end noise is probably gonna cost a bit more and be out of scope for novice tinkerer.

Have a check and come back, a video would be great

Hahaha oh you guys love making my day.
It is sounding like I am going to need a new car.

I'll try making a vidya tomorrow then, I think I'll be getting a train up to London just in case.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Ah phew it is definitely coming from the top of the engine so I assume it is the tappets.

I'll grab a haynes this weekend and have a gander. Cheers
