#2i know
give me a good reason to tell you
-
#3goin to view a car and i am sceptical about mileage..also just interested in how you do it...
-
#4i know aswell pm me an ill tell u
-
#5dont advertise how to do it. Just check all the mot certificates and check the mileage adds up. Also check the history for notification of millage change
-
#6wt if no history?
-
#7do the sensible thing and walk away. Check the online mot database
-
#8one sign is that the numbers wont line up mate
-
#9should b easy to change if its analogue
-
#10Couple months old this thread, but I'll bump anyway, not 100% on this.. but if you got an ECU from another Saxo..
Let your mind figure out the rest
.
-
#12Depends. Mk2s have digi spedos
-
#13Mileage is stored on ECU.
-
#17did anyone see the watchdog programme on clocking cars? so quick & simple too! just plugged the laptop in to the board & click"" done. terrrible-hope the guy in question got the jail for it.
-
#18Bang it in reverse...
-
#19Might have been clocked becouse it had another engine put in with lesser miles.
Or as adsayer said put it in reverse and drive everywhere. -
#21Check the online mot database...................................
-
#22Axle stands and leave in reverse. see Ferris Bueller's Day Off for more details.....

#23Loads of people advertise 'digital mileage correction' online and in ad mags and the amount of cars being given 'haircuts' is on the rise. Use your common sense. If the mileage is low but the car shows signs of wear and tear that are not concurrent with the mileage then check the history. Generally cars with low mileage have been looked after and will have most of the original service books and MOT certificates etc. Whenever a car is MOT'd the tester writes the current mileage on the pass sheet.
The fact that you've posted this question on here says to me that you're sceptical and the rule with buying second hand is that if it feels in any way dodgy don't buy it. -
#25Sorry to thread Hi-jack, my question is slightly relevant though. I will be replacing my dials console / odometer or what ever it is called as some of the warning lights have been hacked off. I have seen second hand ones on E-bay e.t.c but they have less mileage on (For a MK2 VTS) would the new odometer show the mileage of the old car or mine ? Any help would be appreciated.

#26The replacement clocks will have the mileage of whatever car they came off.Quote:Sorry to thread Hi-jack, my question is slightly relevant though. Mileage is stored on the clocks. -
#27Only on the analogue ones. The digital clocks have the mileage stored on the ecu
-
#30It's not illegal to "clock" the speedo's mileage at all actually...
And as I said earlier, mileage on saxo digital clocks is stored on the CLOCKS not the ecu...
-
#31deff wrong on that one, as stated, its the clocks that store the mileage, not the ECU. yes i do know how to clock both the mk1 guages and mk2 digitals but not going to go advertising it
-
#32Oh, my bad guys
