Can you advise on an alternator with corroded wiring

    Hi,

I had the usual problems with a flickering battery light and thought that i'd need a new alternator, however after have a serious poke round, I discovered that the power cable to the alternator had corroded and when I gave it a poke, it came loose. The beginners how to section is useful, but I have one or two questions.

Are the alternators on saxo's usually connected by a ring style connection? A mate who is better with cars said that most cars are normally a 'push in' connection but i'm pretty sure he's wrong about the saxo. I think my options are gonna be to either (a) buy a new ring connector from somewhere - but I need one that will be rated high enough to take the amps from the alternator or (b) have to buy the cable, which I don't want to do because i'm reluctant to disturb the rest of the electrics given the age of the car!

Can anyone give advice, is it a ring connector and if so, can you just get the replacement connector or do you need to get a whole new cable.

Car in question is a 1.5d Saxo 1999 3dr model.

    Thanks!

yes its a ring connector... if the wiring seems ok and is long enough just cut the ring off and put a new one on

Halfords or any motor factor will sell you a ring connector.

Thanks for the advice, I had a look on the Halfords website and couldn't find any ring connectors that were rated higher than 30a. Since the Alternator is probably a 90a model will that be okay?
