Important! : mot failure?? slight bend in a unknown beam next to zorst. blue prints uploaded

ok under neath my car theres the chasis that is fine.
however each side of the zorst pipe theres two bars that run from behind the engine to the back of the car (supports?)
because taking a picture wont mean much ive cleavely used my artistic skils to give a detailed blue print of the problem

i don not know the name of the parellel rails that go under it. its bent very slightly . any info will be great. cheers

the exhaust runs inbetween these beams as well if this helps? the fold is just before the cat
  2. #2
How bout asking the guy at the garage?????
  3. #3
is that not the chasis membrane
  4. #4
One of the chassis rails? They are quite soft and often get split/ dented due to people jacking the car up/ placing axle stands in wrong place etc. They don't really serve any function per se, but the MOT man will probably pick up on them if they're severely damaged or badly rusting away.

What does it say on the failure sheet i.e what did they fail it on?
  5. #5
haven't taken it I'm just preparing it for it's mot mate. Was considering using fibreglass filler to make it look ok then just paint over it??
  6. #6
provided its not split or totally crushed it should be fine for MOT, usually down as an advisrory
  7. #7
Thanks mate reckon it's worth filling tho to make it look normalish??
  8. #8
    Got any pictures?

You may end up making it look worse tbh. It might be worth packing it out with underseal if it looks split/ a bit suspect?
  9. #9
unless its cracked, hole, rusted . . . obvioulsy damaged it will be ok!

if its a dent, it COULD be advised!
if its damaged atall within 6" of a join or such, it will fail.
  10. #10
don't put filler on it, it'd only make me more suspicous and prod it harder lol
  11. #11
    Talking about this?
  12. #12
^^ i wouldnt worry about tbh.
  13. #13
    What about the hole underneath?
  14. #14
as above, standard on saxos that have been in salvage yard lol(fork lift rash), or suffered speed bump contact,no need to worry
  15. #15
Can dent them with your fingers if you push hard enough lol. See it on people's cars all the time - axle stands/ jack in the wrong place.
  16. #16
the hole isn't in the shell, its a gap between the floor and a heat shield by the looks of it
  17. #17
mine has something like this but further foward, my mate put a axel stand under it, its slightly well about 2 inches bent my floor pan, but it went through a mot dont worry about it bud
  18. #18
the hole looks like its a gap, as above stated between the shell and heat sheild... if your on about the other holes...that are actually holes, they are there for draining!
all points on the car will have them too!

    again no need to worry.

Sorry for thread hijack, but my cars getting lowered next week, and as you can see my exhaust is hanging quite low, would somebody PM me if they have a cure for this? and if its possible to actually attach it to the car itself in the middle as it hardly makes it over speed bumps with 2 people in the car. Need to make up 5cm somewhere by moving the cat upwards. Really don't want to decat the car tbh

Get yourself a new olive clamp - take the old clamp with you to get it matched up if you like. Best bet will be to push the CAT or middle box up towards the car (not too far, leave a little room to allow for movement) and nip the new clamp up.

Had that done I think 2 weeks ago, is this what you mean?

Still does not really effect the height, still scrapes, any others?

That middle box musn't be giving you much clearance against the bottom of the car then - Magnex by the looks of it? Quite common with them.

The middle box of the std system is flat, so it sits tighter against the bottom of the car... if that makes sense. Could try removing the heat shield and pushing it a bit higher up. Failing that, might be time to change exhaust if you're going for a substantial drop.
  23. #23
Yeah its a Magnex I think, came with the car.

What are the chances of being pulled if I got a decat pipe with mid silencer? are they loud at all?

Btw, Dropping 45mm at the front, and 40 or 50 at the rear, which would handle better?
  24. #24
Not massively loud mate, but try removing the heatshield, undo that clamp and push the whole lot higher up imo.

I'd go 35mm / 40mm all round imo mate. Having the rear lower looks crap and spoils the handling imo.
