Crank speed help please for a friend...

    Hi everyone,

Don't know if anyone will be able to help, but a friend has asked me if I would post this up anyways, as guess he is a bit stuck now, it isn't a saxo - dta management, this is what he has to say......

Hi. Any tips/hints at sorting/improving crank speed..?

Car needs to be cranking over at startup @ 200-250rpm..
Car was cranking at barely 100rpm

Tried bigger/another battery – stays the same.
Tried another starter motor – stays the same.
but we added a second earth onto engine – it went up to circa 150rpm..

Added another (3rd) earth – stays the same.
Cleaned up /removed paint around starter on block and gearbox earth –stays the same.

So far this is all we’ve done.. anymore/other suggestions..?
Is fitted with a crank sensor, was working ok on old engine.
    Ta.

Any help much appreciated, thanks guys

Thanks guys I will past this on....basically he has done an engine conversion in a Nova, it's now a 1.8 smallblock with itbs, there were problems with the throttle pot and allsorts but I will suggest these to him....

you could possibly be right about the crank speed on the ecu though Sparco_Tom, Martin Bowyer, don't know if you've heard of him he put they map on the ecu and supplied all the parts needed so maybe that's all he needs to do....go and pay Martin a visit to change the speed

I don't know about the engine being tight or high CR will find out....thanks guys much appreciated, here's a pic if you're intereested at all

Thought I had some of the engine on my laptop but can't find them, nevermind....
