1.4 Into a 1.1

  1. #1
Hey guys how easy isit to drop a 1.4 engine into a 1.1 ?
Things such as electrics...ecu, gearbox are they very similar ?
    will a 1.1 box work with a 1.4 engine and clutch ?
and will it run off the same wiring loom as a 1.1 with a 1.4 ecu or would i need a new loom aswell ?
The car is on an R it currently has a 1.1 black top init.

    Thanks alot

if your gunna drop a 1.4 engine in it you might aswell just drop a vtr engine into it mate, and it depends what type of ecu plugs you have on both , etc 1 plug or 3 plug , obv that determines if the looms are different

i realised that after, after reading another thread. i think i will tbh i do fancy a vtr and the mrs's has one aswell so would be kwl to take my car to that level.

So if i got a 1 plug vtr lump with a 1 plug ecu and vtr box would i need to change hubs and struts ?
and are the engine mountings the same ?

as long as the drive shafts are the same thickness and length then it shouldn't need changing, as long as you've got a 1 plug loom then a one plug ecu and engine shud go straight in

you dont have to change the gearbox mate, it will be quite quick on acceleration but will be Sh*t top end... if you do change the gearbox make sure u get one out of the same year or mk preferably in which your car is a "r" reg so will be a mk1 box and driveshafts you need. hope this helps Lee

it wont be shit top end just not as high. TBH 1.1 boxes are fine to use everyday

my current engine is a black top, would i be better off gettin a blacktop vtr and box or do the silvertops come in one plugs aswell?
    Cheers

stick with the blacktop, silvertops have a different fueling setup.
Although both are single plug and will fit. The silvertop is just alot more messing about

Silvertops only give a little more power don't they, but black tops can have the rallye inlet which makes up for it

silvertop vtr has 98bhp blacktop vtr has 90bhp,, baicly silver top is newer than black top

i think that is corect anyway , please corect me if i am wrong
    ??

I think it's because the exhaust is more restrictive on the mk1 - not 100% sure

if you pt a mk2 mani on , it doesn't make 8bhp more tho does it ??

The Late silvertop engines have 98bhp 2001> but the earlier silvertops 2000< have 90bhp too, cat under car single plug ecu, 98bhp silvertops have cat in the manifold 3 plig ecu

why did they randomly change from 90 to 98 bhp then .. obv if they we're still silvetops ? was it purely because of teh restrictive mani and cat ?

New inlet manifold exhaust manifold and ecu map

i do believe the later 98 silvertops had a lot of fiddling with the fuel injection system and as said before the inlet manifold.
Thanks for all your help guys, as suggested ill go for a vtr blacktop and box and start the modding from there
