I beg to differ, my brother got £1300 for his 1999 VTR 2 weeks ago as CAT C and bought it back for £118. Also they dont go at what you put down its worth they go at current market value. I'd say £1400-£1600

Start digging now search for cars in the same condition, miles etc look for the ones sold at a good price and print them off, collect loads. refuse the first offer, supply the insurers with what you have found in the likes of Auto trader, local press etc. Refuse the second offer but you must accept the 3rd.

what is the mileage? general condition before crash? Mot etc, my brothers had around 10 months mot, 65000 miles and was in spot on condition, but his was a MK1. Take it yours is a MKII? if its a piece of shit then your obv not going to get as much ££ like. I paid £300 for an escort a few years ago, got wrtoe off and got paid out £880 for it. I know you have already said you paid £900 but wouldnt go expressing it a lot. Maybe say you meant £1900, typo :-)
