Sliding when cornering fast

  1. #1
ok so got my track car on the road and it slides when cornering fast not stupidly fast but sending on.

    its lowered 40mm
    upper omp strut brace
    lower omp strut brace
    yokohama s drive tyres

was thinking mabye needs more weight in it cause feels worse since stripped it out any idea?

maybe you are just going too fast for the corner? OR need to alter your driving style to suit ?

    better tyres would help?

    what suspension you running?

Does it understeer? OR the rear feels twitchy ?

    1st thoughts would be:

    Spax springs only
    Poor tyres
    Too much speed for conditions/road

Spax springs with standard dampers is never going to be a good setup for track use.

am on about in the dry dont have any coilovers or anything tyres are almost new just back end feels slidy more than anything
  6. #6
You keeping the throttle balanced while cornering?

Makes me cringe when I'm in the car with people who 'stab' at the throttle mid corner.

Stripping the rear will obviously make the back end a little more 'playful' ...

yeah am not slamming down hard or pinning it i try balance it just back end seems so happy i know theres no weight on it should i deck back end or just spring for a shock set up?

No idea how much PSI people run on track but are your tyres pumped up too much so they let go too early?

they have 32 in them mate.

If you're planning on plenty track time, I'd definitely look into a better suspension setup.

I find Faulkner 155lb springs with Bilstein Grp N dampers all round ideal for fast road use (and living with on a daily basis). I think you'd see a good improvement with say a set of B8s and similar lbage springs. You'd probably want something stiffer for track... say Grp N dampers and 170lb springs. 21mm torsion bars would be a nice addition too.

yeah i want a good handling set up because at the moment it just doesnt handle as i want so shocks and springs a good start? does bushes make a big difference?
  13. #13
Polybushes do make everything feel tighter, but I'd say your main priority is getting the springs/ dampers sorted and the rear adjusted to match the new height at the front.

Is the car a daily driver?

    Yes and yes

vts is 32 front 29 rear.
if the back end is stripped less weight is over the rear axle,so in theory less air in tyres.
but as above take a look at suspension set up.

yeah its a daily driver atm whilst am sorting my 172 out i was thinking polybushes and dropping back end to like 80 with uprated shocks

IMO, get a nicely balanced setup instead of just slamming it

I'm running poly bushes front and rear, Bilstein Group N shocks, GMC 40mm springs on the front, 24mm Rear ARB and 21mm Torsion bars and to me it feels great on the road and perfectly balanced. If you go into a corner too fast it will just wash wide, regardless of your suspension setup

Mine isn't slammed to the deck, and is probably only around 20mm lower than standard, if that.

LOL, I wouldn't be slamming it on its hoop if I was you.

For a daily driver, I'd recommend some GMC 40mm springs (I know of two people on these forums selling some pretty cheap) and Bilstein B8 dampers (front and rear). If your budget stretches, you could always go for Grp N front and B8 rear dampers.

The front will sit high... those GMC springs only give around a 30mm drop IIRC. Set the rear ride height to match, maybe even a few mm higher imo.

Just to help with leeums point regarding the GMC set up. heres a pic of a lad on here running them

imo. if your building a track car then buying cheapo components isnt the best way. a standard set up would be considerd better by some (arguably) because by whacking lowering springs on youve alterd the geometry but not really upgraded anything

I think driving style has the most part to play here though. most are quick to blame their cars.

pic: (note that the back end looks un-even in comparison to the front, it's just way its been parked)

sounds good to me mate you will have to let me know about these springs mate and ill look into these shocks wheres the best place to get them from?

keep the car at 40mm if your tracking it.
"Sliding when cornering fast" when you come into a corner fast what do you do before the corner, mid corner, on the exit?

Can buy Billies brand new from GMC Motorsport, Kam Racing etc. You occasionally see them pass through for sale forums too - keep checking Rallye Register, 106 Owners etc.
