Decat Pipe

Yes i no this has proberly been covered alot, but it just says it increases your performance, but does anyone know ther full BHP it will increase by.

    thanks alot

Depends on alot of other things i.e Air filter, manifold, centre section, backbox.

You will get bigger gains from a complete exhaust system. If you just putting a decat pipe on a standard set-up id guess you'd gain about 2 - 3 BHP

ok thanks buddy, yeah im saving up for a new manifold now and few newpipes and a better air filter

Dont think in terms of BHP concentrate on drive-ability and torque. Putting a 4-1 will push the bhp up but you will loose power low down in the revs. Which you want if you have a cam thats geared upwards of 4k, but not if you don't have a cam. Then you'll feel like you've wasted money but really you have just got the wrong setup.

Putting a 4-2-1 will give a general throttle response gain all over which for a general performance gain is what you want. A Decat is good good good for throttle response but dont forget about the MOT and Vosa tests.

Some exhausts can increase throttle response brilliantly, some can completely fuck it up.

Buying an induction kit or cone filter or any other crap like that is a massive waste of money, get a higher flowing filter element. You don't even need a cold air feed.

Have a budget in mind and then get some options together and compare them from what other people have gained from fitting them.

Anything you buy has been bought, fitted, tweaked and binned by someone somewhere.

Thanks alot for the help ste, helped alot i always thought for some reason these cone head air filters just make the car sound loud but i found on my 206 it made it feel like a dog. lol

a decat is meant to give a power increase of up to 10% so if you have a 98bhp vtr you'll get basicly 10 bhp MAX , on a furio your lookin at 8 bhp MAX etc etc ...

put a de-cat on mine with a 4-2-1 manifold . and tbh it did feel better with a de-cat but did get a smell of petrol at times after it was fitted
  8. #8
was it alot better or just a bit better ?? an the petrol smell may be because the cats not burning the excess gasses / fuel
  9. #9
a cat wouldn't burn excess fuel anyway lol. fuel kills cats within seconds, thats one function of the lambda sensor to stop it happening. and a decat wont really get you much more hp, it will just give the engine better response and "eagerness"

tbh torque is what i want i dnt care about power lol .. decat an a 4-2-1 mani.. 147 quid from ebay for a sportex .. thats what i'm gettin
  11. #11
an by excess fuel i didnt mean literally.. obv with a decat there isn't anything from the mani to the backbox stopping fumes or anything burning.. any unburnt fuel is thrown out the exhaust .. engines obv arn't 100 % efficient

i had a decat on my vtr with filter and full through magnex and raceland 4-branch manifold. put the cat back on and doesnt seem and slower:l if anything just slightly less responsive
  13. #13
you've got to remember that the mk1 is a much more restrictive system than the mk2 so if you already had the mani then there wouldn't have been a massive amount of difference, obv with a mk2 a decat includes a 4-2-1 / 4-1 mani , hence possibly better gains

I've switched between my decat and my cat a few times now and to be honest there is no real difference that I can gather - other than you might notice a brief improvement and then once the ECU recalibrates itself it returns to normal.

in your situation you'd probly be best off leaving the cat in then mate , that way no hassle for mot time
