    Right guys,

Got a fat clunking noise every time i turn right in my VTR (MK1), could this be a driveshaft or something? Would rather find out on here with your help than pay someone to look at it, don't know much about cars at all! Your help is much appreciated!

Btw, if you need any more info on the problem to determine what it is etc, then just ask!

    Thanks in advance,

    Deano.

If its a one off clunk its more likely to be suspension related mate, possible a droplink issue although it could be a number of things.

If its a constant knocking whilst turning one way its a shaft. Easy to tell if theyve gona most of the time without even jacking the car up; have a look underneath, if its gone theyll be dark grease absolutely everywhere on that side of the car

Not a one-off clunk, it kind of builds up and get more regular as you get further through the turn? Have read various things about this, driveshaft, bearing, droplink and even new rear beam needed!?

Most likely the CV joint on the driveshaft then, if its a repeating knock/click then its nearly always the shaft. Suspension failures can bring all sorts of noises but theyre never really cyclical. It should sound like its coming from the the front though, the side can sometimes be hard to decipher but it should definitely feel like its coming from the front end?

Yeah it feels as if it is coming from the front, but sounds like the back? Do you have any idea how much it would cost to sort? and what parts id need? Damn i need someone to get this sorted haha

If it is the shaft, your looking at around £35-50 for a second hand shaft or £80 for a new one. The pinch bolt on the wishbone and shaft nut need replacing along with the gearbox oil.

I could do it for £50 on top of the cost of a shaft, including the gearbox oil, pinch bolt and shaft nut. But unfortunately Im busy for the next two weeks or so, so I may be of no use to you mate

Dont get paid for ages mate, so I will keep you in mind, definitley! If i have a new backbox to fit by then too, do the two for £50 ?

No worries, make it £55 to cover the exhaust paste and youve got a deal

Would be best for me to come have a ganders first though, make sure it is the shaft
