Piper Bacbox on standard MK1 VTR system; noise and sound??

  1. #1
Really wanting a piper backbox atm as i've heard they give a really nice burbling low tone to the car and a decent sound when going through gears etc, what do people know?

What would a piper box on the standard system sound like? at idle? and going through gears etc?

Also, wouldn't mind a few pictures!

    Thanks,

    Deano.

Fairly quiet with a low burble like you want.

Agreed, worth looking at Sportex units though. Despite the terrible name theyre top notch and very similar to a more expensive piper. Mated with a silenced and catted system theyre just what your after, and have real rasp and bite to them should you ever derestrict the system.

I'm looking for a decent sounding exhaust but don't want the motorway drone I had on my first car!

Thanks mate. Where in bristol are you at?

What i'm after is the burble that you get all the time, whenever the car is on and regardless of whether or not you've got your foot on the accelerator, if you know what I mean?

At the moment my VTR just has a K&N induc. kit on it from when I bought it, and the only time I get any noise is with your foot down a bit -> floor, anywhere between those. Which I assume is because more air is being sucked through? I want the noise to be permenant, so like I said a fat low burble when I don't have my foot on the accelerator at all?

imo piper are pretty loud. I have the oval system and it sounds awesome it will be louder on a 16v engine. up for around 2-5k its very loud then a nice tone after on down changes loads of pops

    would agree with moxy.

they are loud, bit quiter than the SS id say, get lots of popping and rasp.

Yeah the Piper/Sportex will give you that just as you want Id say, a nice deep burble without being obnoxious.

i have a piper on my vts and it is very loud, constantly popping and rasping. if your not decatting and just putting on a backbox then it may be the right exhaust for you.

you could consider magnex as they are quieter

Yeah I know of the place bud. Lol, its a bit of a shithole Fishponds to be fair but its not bad, I swear its colder here than the rest of Bristol.

Theyre about £95 new, they come up for around £50-70 second hand usually.

This is mine, but with a 4-1 mani, straight through and 16v's

Put that exact backbox on a mates VTR the other day, he wanted to see if it was quiet enough to not piss his kid off, it sounds just as you want it. Low burble, nice and deep but not chavvy

So have you got just a standard system with a piper backbox on it?

i have it decatted with straight through centre atm, it was a lot quieter when i had the cat on but still may be a little too loud for you if im honest

Why would it be too loud for me?!

they are still generally quite a loud exhaust compared to to others. if your not wanting loudness like you said then options such as magnex may be worth considering
