Car idling weird and gearstick making squeaking sound.

   Firstly my car is idling weird, it splutters and the revs go up and down i was told before it sounds like there is a crack in my manifold,any ideas?
   
   Also when i change in to 5th gear there is a squeaking sound as if something needs oiled up,was thinking maybe this could be the gear linkages as the gear stick is really loose as well,like a wooden spoon in a bucket,any ideas?

   The idling problem could be down to the idle control valve. If you search theres a few threads on how to clean them out

   My gear stick also squeeks I've greased all the linkages but still squeeks when the car warms up.

   hmm the ear stick only started happening tonight on my car thats why i thought it was a bit odd.

   happens on mine, unfasten the gearstick gaiter and grease up the ball joint at the base of the gear knob. Problem solved!
