Petrol Guage... Am I going crazy!!??

  1. #1
    Hi,

Quick questions, does the VTS petrol gauge act as a MPG guide? what I mean is, does it move up and down depending on how you drive? if not my eyes must be playing up cos I would swear blind that it moves position slightly! Also would a Power flow back cat exhaust increase or decrease MPG? I have been driving slow and using my gears on a full tank just to see how she does and I have done 85 miles and the gauge is a 3/4 full? is that good or bad or do I have a fualty petrol guage?

    Cheers

85miles using 1/4 tank sounds about right tbh

They do tend to move around quite a bit.
Mine moves maybe about 1/8th to 1/4 of a tank when i go up and down steep hills.
It settles again on the flat though.

Tbh sounds normal, i just returned 46.7 from 17.8ltrs which is 183 miles

    £20 worth of fuel.

After it does it next time leave your car parked on a flat surface for a while then come back, turn on the ignition and the fuel gauge should show exactly what is in the tank as the fuel in the hoses should have drained out.

Cheers lads! that makes me feel a little better knowing its not a fault. It takes £40 to fill her up and I was wanting to get around 300 miles to a tank! so sounds about right.

Yer I would get something around 95 in my VTR so considering a VTS has a slighty less mpg sounds right to me, and to be honest the powerflow exhaust system probably decreases it slightly but nothing noticeable, nothing to worry about. My petrol gauge goes down when I go uphill and goes back up when I go down, strange things. . . .

I think demon tweeks sell one.
It plugs into the diagnostics plug in the passengers footwell.
    Costs about 60 quid iirc.
