Wheel Bearing failure

  1. #1
    Hi guys my mate has a W reg Saxo Facelift which he is getting problems with the drivers front wheel bearing, The first time it went he replaced it with a new bearing, which also went after about 1month, he says the lad told him it had a warped hub which i find quite hard to believe myself? So this time he replaced the hold hub from the scrappy which worked for again about 2-3 weeks and is at the point now where the wheels gonna fall off. Has anyone any ideas as to why it could keep going or is the lad that fitted them the problem maybe?

    Thanks lads

    Bearing has possibly damaged the strut where it gets pressed in?

    I'd try a new strut myself.

    Also very possible the wrong bearings and or hub have been supplied. The driveshaft and hub/wheelbearing fitment changed in 1999, the seat was flat with a notch and changed to a tapered kind. The wheel bearing is in direct contact with this part, so if the wrong bearing is fitted they die extremely quickly.

    If his driveshaft looks like the top unit, he needs to order a later bearing, say from a 2002 Saxo to make sure its the right one. If it looks like the bottom shaft, with the shorter thread and the notched seat, he needs a pre 1999 bearing so order one from 1998 to be sure;

    I often order parts like this in this way when I carry out work on Saxos/106s, as the crossover in phases, engine managment, drivetrain and so on didnt happen overnight and all sorts of freaky shit happened, you can never rely on the databases. Ive seen all sorts of mix and matches on 1999/2000 reg cars
