GTi-6 calipers....are these they?

  1. #1
Bought these Girling/Lucas GTi-6 calipers off the bay of E the other day. Went to get some pads from work as I work at a factors and the pads fitted to it currently are XSi ones, for 266mm discs, so now I'm a bit concerned these aren't the 283 GTi-6 brakes.

But...to confuse it more, from the diagrams I've got in my Bendix catalogue, it looks like the Girling calipers will accept either pad (GTi-6, or XSi/ZX diesel/Berlingo/whatever it's fitted to) as they're the same length, have the same fittings and are the same design really. Only difference is the height.

So what I'm trying to work out, is do I have GTi-6 calipers that someone has fitted incorrect pads to at some point, or have I been mis-sold XSi calipers as GTi-6 ones.

    Heres the calipers:

Major thanks to anyone who can shed some light.

    Cheers

    they're 266's im afraid.

    Do them pistons even move?

I've got the rare kind of gti-6 calipers

And they look fuck all like them!

What's the diameter on the piston? Not sure if it alters between the xsi and gti-6 though. GTI-6 is 57mm iirc?

Either way, if you do use them, get em rebuilt cos they don't look like they will stop much

Best place for them is the scrap bin

They look rough, but everything moves freely on them. I paid very little for them, but if they're not 283mm then I paid too much for 266mm IMO.

Lol that would be good as its a 306 Rallye which is a lightweight GTI-6 so has the 283mm brakes as standard.

if the pistons and sliders move then they wont not work cos there not painted red lol

Look at the top of the caliper.

If it has '57' printed near the rear (above the bleed screw/brake hose) they're definitely GTi-6.

I'm gonna say 283mm, the pad fixings are identical between a lot of 283mm/266mm variants, so that doesn't say too much about them.

That does look like a 283mm carrier though. IIRC if it has Lucas printed on it it's usually a sign it's 283mm. The carrier is what makes the biggest difference here.

You might have just made my night....they do have 57 printed on the top! And have Lucas and a number begining with 5 printed on the face of the caliper. They do seem pretty heavy. I'm thinking fuck it, I'll just order some 283mm discs and take the chance! Cheers bud!
