After market ECU question

  1. #1
i just have a quick question about aftermarket ecu's. OMEX 600, predator etc...
do they make standard sensors redundant. i.e. the lambda, Map sensor etc become redundant and are no longer needed within the engine bay.
    thanks

No it still needs them, otherwise how would it be able to monitor what is going on?

i thought that some dont need them and that the sensors are internal to the ecu but might be wrong...

Well i ran KMS on my old VTS and that was till wired into everything except the idle controller thing (cant think what its called) as KMS have a problem with it. But everything else was the same.

if you buy an aftermarket loom for say an omex 600 does that replace all old sensors etc??

no you can setup the ecu to use the existing ones.
With the omex600 you need the extra wiring pack for the ICV

i dont want to use existing ones, they are all shabby and old... can you buy a whole new loom with sensors etc that are specific to certain ecu's? the standard stuff seems to cause to many issues in my opinion

They do their job fine. but you can wire in a load of stupidly expensive aftermarket sensors if you really want.

if you bought an omex loom would they come with new sensors etc? or just leads to sensors? some cars ive seen with very little wireing etc and what seems almost no sensors as if the ecu has integrated sensors

He there, I make the Predator.

You can have an onboard MAP sensor, but obviously the coolant sensor has to be IN the block sensing the coolant temp - and the air temp sensor has to be IN the air flow... not sure you're asking the right questions??

If you have old sensors or wonder about their accuracy, then test or change them??

when you buy an ecu --thats what you get an ecu ,wiring looms are extra as are sensors
no ecu can work without sensors as they are the components that give the imformation on what the engine is doing to the ecu .
are new sensors a good idea --cetainly not a bad idea --there are various ways of setting up an ecu ,so yes you could run a n/a car with no map sensor, but oem ecu always use them .
most of the posts on this and all forums revolve around "how cheap " can it be done ,not what is the best way.
Is it sensible to build a new engine and make a dedicated map using s/h sensors and coil packs ?

can you be sure they are giving you reliable and accurate imformation ?,are the sensors within makers spec when they are 5-10years old?
thats the chances you take with using s/hand components.
and yes alot of the time its not a problem , your choice .
I have raised this point with using s/h t/bodies+ made up manifold and been shot down many times --but s/h is just that s/h and NO WARRANTY.
tps sensors wear with use --as do throttle spindles + linkage
yes they are cheaper but not a fair comparison to a totally new t/body package
    the choice is yours
all the time you see posts that start out with i want a relaible conversion and next breath they are talking about "cheapest " way ,and can i use these s/h parts I bought on ebay !!
    your choice
