Locking Nuts Refuse to Come Off

  1. #1
    Hi,

Recently my mate lost my locking nut key while changing a punctured tyre for me while i was working. This meant i had to get some new locking nuts and the old ones removed without having the key .

Kwik fit got the back two nuts off with no problems using sockets however he claimed the front two were to tight, since then i have been to at least 5 different garages and even tried myself to get them off and nowhere has managed.

Has anyone got an idea of where i can book my car into to get them removed proffesionally? the only option seems to be to get them drilled or welded and citreon wanted £70 an hour for this and claimed it would take 1h30mins... yea right. The cheapest so far i have found to be TF smiths but they still wanted the car for 1h30mins at £30 an hour and said theres no gaurantee they will get them off and if they do without damaging my alloys :wacko.

    cheers

iirc some people weld a bar onto the nut? May have got this wrong so hope someone can confirm either way?!

Yeah just weld another normal nut onto it, then take it off with normal socket.

How likley is this to damage the alloys ? either way i need to take it somewhere to be done i would have no hope trying it myself

You wont damage the alloys at all using this technique, should only take bout 15mins, most of it waiting for the weld to cool!

hammer a smaller socket onto it or take it to a local tyre place and ask them how much

some locking wheel bolts are made to shear off if a socket is hammered over them, then your in the shit as i found out.

Personally I'd take it to Citroen
