Creaking noise?!

  1. #1
Literally sounds like stepping on a creaky floorboard! Seems to be mainly when going over slight bumps so basically all of the time due to our shit roads. I thought at first driveshafts? But i'm thinking maybe front or rear shocks not really sure tbh... Anything else it could be? At first I thought it was just when I was turning the wheel but it's not

    Cheersss.

mmm sonds like suspension or could be worn bushes or rubbers me think hard to tell when u cant hear noise ourselfs

same here mines doing the same. i couldn't find anything wrong with my suspension. Checked everything.Even mot didn't pick anything up. The only thing ive noticed is when i open my door it made the same noise like a creak. So i put some grease on the hinges and the noise/creak isn't so bad.

That's whats weird, I had an MOT like a week ago so surely if it was anything wearing down it would have been noted? I'll give it a good check tomorrow and grease the hinges up

Does sound like it's coming from kind of under the car and to the rear but it is bloody hard to tell tbh...
  5. #5
might and this is a might be something to do with the bushes on the front exhaust pipe...its a suggestion but it's hearing the noise because your problem sounds similar to what I had.
  6. #6
What do you mean by the front mate? Like just down from the manifold?
  7. #7
top strut mounts? i know you said you checked suspension but sometimes these are over loooked

I haven't checked anything yet mate will have a good look tomorrow. How would I go about checking the top strut mounts?
  9. #9
If you look in the engine bay you will see the top of the struts. There is a rubber mount you will see, and if you turn the steering from left to right you should be able to tell if its wrecked. Your lookin for a rip/tear or if it moves too freely. Kind if same as checkin a track rod end

The connection from the front pipe to the manifold iirc.
  11. #11
I would put bets on the front wishbone rear bushes torn. They make a noise like chewing an elastic band when going over bumps. Lift bonnet and bounce car to listen for the noise. I say lift bonnet so you can push on the strut tops rather than dentng the bonnet or wing!
  12. #12
Best bet is to jack the car up and have a shake of a few bits to try and pinpoint it down
  13. #13
    Ive had this before

Nope... Haven't got alot of money to spend on the car atm. The car was up on a ramp at a garage last weekend getting a seal replaced and they had a look over the car for me after I described the noise and agreed with what has been posted on this thread but couldn't find anything that was loose or worn... It hasn't been noticeable this week though
  16. #16
Got the same problem! its a high pitch squeak! going over bumps etc. Does yours go if its rained heavily or when you have washed it? Mine does lol Getting really annoying let me know if you pinpoint it
  17. #17
I am almost 100% sure that what you're describing is the ARB (Anti Roll Bar) end plate bolt... it is a very common problem on saxos..the come loose..just need to tighten them back on..my mate donthis 5 times so ended up welding te bolts on..if its coming form the rear then tts ur problem mate...

i also had this problem,i tightened the anti-roll bar end plate and the noise went away.

Tbh it has just rained a shitload the last couple of days so that could well be why its gone! Yeah its like stepping on a creaky floorboard when going over bumps and when turning the wheel when coming to a stop. I have heard of what the two guys posted above so may give that a try
  20. #20
I've had similar problems, can't really hear it anymore though! Will have a look if it starts again!
  21. #21
    lose ARB end plate?

mine does it, as i think the bolt is knacked or the thread has stripped and i cant get the bolt to stay tight (new bolt and loctite when i get round to it)

every time i go over a bump it squeaks.

i can assure you thats your problem..shoot me if not..the best way to check is to rock the rear of the car when its dry and listen for that squeek..wont be as loud as u can hear it in the car..gd luck..not hard to do neither

Only when turning the steering wheel slightly when coming to a stop. Not when going round bends or anything. I know its not driveshafts
  26. #26
let us no wen u do it..and if it stops

I have this problem.... Happens when it feels like it, i got fed up and left it because everytime i go to show my mechanic it goes away and he thinks im going mental, when i know im not ! ... It happens to me when pressing accelerator ... when i press it down it goes when i release and the cars slightly jalts/ slows down - I get Squeeking. My dad rekons it was coming from my exhaust. Around the manifold/ Downpipe area !

Is it gonna be something that will eventually fall off ? ... I hope not, Its defo from the front of the car .... i thought it was the front right wheel but its not. It apprears to be from towards the front and underneath. As i said - Manifold / Downpipe area!

no if it is the flange wont fall off...just makes tht noise cos its rubbing metal on metal..try tightning joint wer the cat meets the manifold...add some washers to the springs cos it will give u more compression..common problem with saxos..and make sure the gasket is centralised if its a de-cat pipe..wilst ur under the car check the engine mount as well (it is nxt to the joint wer manifold meets cat pipe) and check the gearbox engine mount..get your dad or whoever to rock the engine..if u see play then that could be ur problem as well...cos wat happens is when u accelerate if the engine mount is worn then you get play in the engine..if the engine moves back and forth then it will open the joint wer the manifold meets the cat pipe thus giving u the squeek noise..and could pissible wear out the other engine mounts...let us no wat u find..

My guess is the manifold to centre pipe joint, if you get in your car and lift the handbrake, put it into first and sort of lift the car to the biting point so the car rocks, while doing that get someone to lay down next to the car to see if they can pin point the noise, if its that it should make a noise as the engine rocks.

If it makes no noise when doing that im going for the front anti roll bar bushes, they have gone on me before, they make an annoying squeeking sound when going over bumps.

Its a b*stard, Cause sometimes it dont do it.... As i say, everytime i go to show someone the noise F*cks off lol.

Its definately there, I dont thinks its engine mounts as it doesnt do it 24/7.( whether that matters i dont know)

Also its a totally standard VTR - No De cat or nothing....Although it has had a new centre piece on the exhaust about 4 months ago. Thats when i noticed the noise creeping up Now n again, So i rekon the problem lies there.... Cause my old fashioned mechanic friend called Tony probly dont know the common faults and fixes specifically for the saxo(MY dad swears by him, But im going to use people off this site in future). But im getting it sorted as it pisses me right off.. It does happen over Bumps too. Its like you mentioned " Metal Rubbing metal Squeek Squeek " Imagine a slightly un oiled pogo stick...

JRC1 - Apologies for thread Hijack but i have seen this come up quite a lot !

my money is on the wheel beareing o rthe housing like i said in the other thread my car never did it until i had the wheel bearing replaced i havent read all the thread so if you have alreasy checked this i do apologize
  37. #37
mine did the same turned out to be wishbone bushes.
  38. #38
mine was the lower balljoints, just replaced the whole wishbone arm, mine did it /nearly/ all the time, e.g when turning corners etc.
