Strange Fault

   Hi
   My 2000 VTR engine light came on and I got it read by the local garage (£29!!!) it showed a misfire. Replaced the coil pack and all was fine.
   
   Drove the car for 30mins and the engine light came on and the ECU went into default mode. Turned the ingnition off, re-started the car, the fault cleared and I had no further problem except the engine light is on. I bought an ELM 327 on e-bay and the code gives engine misfire.
   
   I plan to run the car with the engine light on to see if I get the problem back, then reset the light and check if it occurs.
   
   Any other ideas.

   Clear the ECU.
   
   Unplug the battery and leave it for 30 mins. This will make the ECU forget all the parameters it has for the Lambdas, MAP etc etc and force it to re-learn them when its started backup.
   
   This can usually sort alot of problems. But if it comes back;
   
   The engine misfire code can be caused by a dead lambda, MAP sensor, MAF and I can't remember the others.
   
   Try the ECU and see what happens.
