any suggestions on this one guys?

its like somethings wearing away at a part. I can hear it coming from the front / middle of my car.

i dont know if its the driveshaft
or the cambelt... but that was changed at 66,000 and its only at 98,00 now

Its difficult to sort these over the forum mate. Probably going to have to garage it.

But if you can give it a jet wash underneath and get it jacked up with a good light on it you might be able to see something.

    not the gear box?

Mine wears from the middlish of the car bloke in tweeks said it could be the box and to try some oil in it, aint got round 2 it yet

describe the sound. is it more of a whirring sound at higher speeds and does it change to a squeak at lower speeds?
  5. #5
i dont think its the gear box cos if i slightly put my foot on the accelerator it starts.. but after i get past a certain point it stops..
and DT.... it is a whirring sound at higher speeds and squeeks when i take on the mini round abouts and turns onto my drive and what not....

Because i have seen in hundreds of times and my sax had the exact same noise, i replaced the driveshaft and it was fine from then on

Tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine! as they are incompetant
to change a driveshaft should take a MAXIMUM of 2 hours, especially when they have got Ramps and specialist tools. mine took me 3 hours but that was cos it was when there was about a foot of snow, and i was doing it on the floor lol.

Is this noise quite loud, Because I have one that proper sounds like a groaning/whirring type of noise and its everytime I lift off the throttle, put the clutch down to change gear below 50mph,
  18. #18
any chance it could be my fan belt because I fucked it the other day lol

Same problem i have mate, but mines usually betwenn 50-70mph.

yer just seem like the driveshat because surely if it was that then the sound wouldnt appear when I put the clutch down or when I take my foot off the accelarator, Does sound like something is going round though

EDIT: also jacker is the noise on yours constant, because mine can be very random and doesnt usually appear that much when I first start driving the car (After around 2 mins)

i have had the same problem that you had described, really bad squeak when i went round bends, although my advise is dont leave it as long as i did, wen me and my dad opend it all up it was just F**KED!! it cost me as u say again before about £80 to replace the whole thing. (well £87.99 but u wernt far of so il give it you )
    Thank you for your help

100 per cent sure that all the problems described in this thread are to do with the intermediate bearing (unless your car is a 1.1 or lower and does not have one)
  24. #24
theres threads like this all the time, those bearings cant be up to much, i wonder what would happen if someone just took it off and ran the car without it
