Well... we all know HID's are illegal on saxo's.

Whats the punishment if you get caught with them?

Depends on the cop but id say a fine maybe, wouldnt say youd get points

Or a warning for you to get to the mot test station, get them sorted then send the ticket away signed to say its been sorted and passed the test

Tbh 6k ones i never had a problem with any more than 6 - 8k hids then you will more than likely get pulled

Hid kits are road legal... Untill you get to something like 7k... After that its frowned upon as they are just too bright for on comming road users.
Even then, they can only ask for it to be toned down a little...
A car or bike would not fail an mot if he had hids of any strength.

i thought hids were illegal as the kits most people fit dont have a level adjuster in them ie cars which have them fitted from the factory have a level adjuster so if you have more weight in the back and the lights point further upwards then the lights would point down slightly not to blind people, so i would have thought aftermarket hids would be illegal

HID's are only legal in projection bulbs with head light cleaners and self levelling.

As people have said there illegal. You can get the fact sheet here http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&sourc...08f1e6a1220005

As for punishment usual for any lighting infraction would be a fix it note or non endorsable fixed penalty fine. The police do also have the right confiscate the vehicle. Under the prohibition system it allows the police to recover your vehicle and you would have to pay for the recovery costs or the vehicle would be crushed. This is becoming a more and more common action for the police to take. Next step would be county court and the possibility of £2500 fine and or prison time. Or if they take you to crown court its significantly more again.

But as people have said a not to bright set of a sensible colour that is well setup will often simple be overlooked by the police and so you may get away with it. Plenty of people have got pulled with illegal lights of all sorts and got away with it. I would not recommend it though.
