oil pump failure

   how do you no if the oil pump is failing?

   the oil pressure would be low or non exsistant.
   
   eventurally the oil will no circulate around the oil galleries/jets and the engine will eventually sieze

   no oil pressure. wont be getting any oil to head. car will prob be tapping and knocking it tits off.

   Yeh it won't sound nice, big damage also if you run it too long.

   reason being when i start the car first thing i let it tick over but about 15 seconds it develops a loudish squeak which sounds 'dry' if you no what i mean. initially i thought it was my alternator as the lights etc dim an the revs drop a little but now listening i think it is coming from the head/cam!? i dunno any ideas?

   If there's no oil pressure then you're oil pressure light would be on i guess.

   Could be the release bearing in the clutch, tends to make a sort of squeak and grinding noise when it's on the way out.
