Important! : Car cutting out.

Hi all

My car when warm keeps cutting out when hot,I try to start it but the starter motor makes a sound like a pneumatic drill.Leave the car for an hour and it starts again.No engine management light comes on i`ve had the RAC out and they`ve said the alternator and battery are both okay.

The fuel filter could be patially blocked which would cause the car to cut out. It won't be the starter motor as this is only used in the start up sequence of the car. It probably sounds like a pneumatic drill because it may require an overhaul or a really good clean. Other causes for the cutting out could be patially blocked injectors or poor or incorrect type spark plugs.

Thanks for the info the spark plugs are new and the correct type the fuel filter is also new & the fuel system as been cleaned through this was happening before all of these things were changed.(i`m now thinking coil pack breaking down when hot)

i've had similar recently. I changed the HT leads first which fixed the problem for a bout a week. I then changed the plugs made no difference and finally replaced the coil which has fixed the problem entirely.

Apprantly its a common problem someone said on here.

If your coil is the square type next to the rocker cover it'll cost £58 from unipart otherwise £108
