rusty exhaust how to remove without damaging

  1. #1
i have rush between the joining sleeves but want to take the backbox off how can i do it without damaging it?

tap the sleeved part gently with a hammer on the side of the pipe, that usually knocks any rust out thats holding the inner piece in,then spray wd40 on it,repeat several times, try twisting the back box while a mate holds the front piece, failing that, warm the outer piece up with a blow torch to expand it, after that just thrash the bastard into submission and hope it doesn't fall apart

a nylon hammer can help along with a dose of heat

cheers guys the standard exhaust is normally just clamped isnt it? i can see there is a clamp on it

normally a saxo exhaust has a clamp and an "olive" type fixing at the back box rather then a sleeve though some non-OE and performance exhausts are sleeve fit

ok so is it a case of taking the old back box off being the standard one and then the performance one should fit in the sleeve yeh
