Handbreak light keeps flashing on

  1. #1
I was driving a few days ago and for some reason my handbrake light was flickering on when i was driving, so i made sure it was down properly and it was, but the light still came on several times flashing. I've applied the handbrake on and off a few times and this is the second day it's happened. I dont think the handbrake is actually on at all because it's not affecting my driving, but it does keep flashing on and off for a few seconds and it's getting annoying!!

    Any ideas?

mine did this, being an old car ignored it and nearly killed myself at a junction after checking the car the rear wheel cylinder had gone and all the brake fluid had leaked out. if problem persists after topping up check your brakes for leaks

topped the brake fluid up today and the light hasn't come on since. Spot on with the advice!

be careful even though youve topped it up, that cylinder problem is quite common, usually its just a slow leak but it can leak pretty quickly. one of my cylinders went and it leaked pretty much immediately, i had no breaks and had to drive home at 30 mph on a motorway just to be safe haha. if one does need changing though you might as well get both done because a month down the line the other one is likely to leak aswell, if you only get one replaced it puts pressure on the older one which causes it to leak, if you get both done its all even =]

yeh my gfs light has been on for about 2-3 weeks, me thinking it was just a dodgy handbrake sensor, then yesterday she had no breaks what so ever!even filled the fluid back up, nothing. i had to drive it back very slow with only the hand brake as a brake, rear wheel cylinder has gone
