Important! : Doing my head in click

  1. #1
    Hi Guys

I was on motorway when a low pitch vibration began it was coming from the drivers side wheel.
I was told that it could be the wheel bearing or driveshaft. I was also told that the ball joint in the wishbone was knackered. So I replaced the driveshaft, wheel bearing, droplink and the wishbone. Now I get a click noise when moving off and it also happens when you reverse a little. I’m sure its got to be one of the new parts that have been fitted because it wasn’t happening before.

Thanks for the advice in advance!!!

id personally go with the droplink not being tight enough.

i've checked all nuts and they are tight

Worn anti-roll bar bushes can also cause the problem you have described.
  5. #5
    are these easy to replace?
  6. #6
Fairly easy to replace, perhaps a little fiddly. But make sure it is the bushes that are worn first.
  7. #7
how do icheck to see if they are worn?

    thanks

Find your anti-roll bar and follow the bar from the outside to the inside (i.e towards the engine) and you will come across a clip holding a rubber bush, usually held with two bolts. Hold the anti-roll bar and try moving it. Any movement within the rubber bush indicates that the bush is worn and requires replacing.

Have you checked your track rod for any signs of wear??
  12. #12
I had to use a blow torch and a windy gun to do mine back up they just wouldnt go on
  13. #13
the track rod ends aren't that bad and the track rod seems fine. when going left over bumps you can also feel it judder/clunck through into the footwell of the driverside

it sounds like the antiroll bar mine did the same and mine didnt moved when i tryed to move mine but i took them off and the was f*cked and i replaced them and they are fine no noises

check for wear or splits on gaiters?
  16. #16
gaiters are brand new jus put a new driveshaft in last week

A further check to do on the anti-roll bar, is to take the hold on clip off and move the bush back an inch or two and physically look at the anti-roll bar. It should be the same diameter all round, if its worn the bar will appear to be waisted (i.e smaller in diameter than the rest of the bar). If it is waisted then the anti-roll bar will require replacing.
Also check the security of the brake caliper bolts. Another thing it could be is the spring side of the brake pad. If the spring that goes into the cylider is deformed or has a prong missing it may allow the brake pad to move about when the brakes are applied.

brake pads are ok, nuts are tight, spring is ok, will have a look at the anti roll bar properly as you said. will let u no the outcome

had a look at the anti roll bar and the bushes and everything is solid.

could it be the engine mount? or steering rack?

and where can i find the nuts that hold the steering rack to see if they are tight?

    thanks

Locate the steering rack and you will see the brackets holding the steering rack to the engine bulkhead. The bolts are usually with the Torx heads. Check the engine mounts for any movement or obvious wear or damage.
