Offside steering rack gaitor missing

Failed the Mot on the offside steering rack gaitor missing. Got a universal one from my local motor factors. Just wondering how to put it on. Is it an easy enough job?

Not too bad to do. Undo the track rod bolts and brackets, release the securing clip and slide the gaiter off. Some people find it even easier to remove the inlet manifold first, but is achievable without doing this.

incorrect the offside gaitor litterally just slips onto the end very simple job, but a universal one is the incorrect part. it is a sort of Cone shaped.

If you remove the offside wheel and turn the wheel you will see what i mean because it protects the rack (rack and pinion) of the steering from dirt getting in. it just pops on but make sure its on properly otherwise it will just come off, i put a tie wrap on it just to make sure.

Trouble is by undoing it at the track rod end, if the track rod decides to be a bit stubborn, there is the danger of damaging the track rod end, even with ball joint splitters.
