Clutch changing tips

  1. #1
Over the past few days it has been harder to engage 1st gear and the clutch pedal has been clicking when it's almost fully down. Thought might be the cable fraying. After having someone operate the clutch I have found the noise is coming from the gearbox itself. I am imagining the thrust bearing has collapsed because it also rattles sometimes when the clutch pedal is down.

So I just ordered a clutch kit, gonna do it over the weekend. Anyone got any good time saving tips or general advice to make the job run smoother?

From memory the most awkward bit is getting the box back on and doing it without disturbing the bearing on the release arm.

Any help appreciated, and thank you in advance.

i did it few weeks back mate , putting it back on was a ball ache but then got one of my dads mates round and it took him 2 mins to put it on , just need to have the strength lol

i taped the release arm to the box so it didn't keep pulling the the bearing falling off

did mine yesterday, if you want it to be easy then remove everything you can, take both driveshafts right out the way, remove battery tray, then undo the plate that the mount is fixed to under the battery tray. just go about it slowly and think about how much room you will need, make sure you clean up the splines with a bit of scotch bright and then put a little copper slip on the shaft to allow the release bearing to slide freely.
