406 Brembos - Spacers?

  1. #1
Hi, i've read the 406 upgrade thread for Brembos behind VTS wheels, the lad who wrote the thread used 20mm spacers and shaved them down to 16mm.

Does anyone know if 15mm spacers are enough, as they are only made in 15mm then 20mm sizes?

15mm wont do it i dont think. Even 16mm will trim paint off the caliper if its too thickly put on! I ran mine under 20mm (too lazy to get the spacer machined down) & even 20mm looks really close! I intended to go down to 18mm & then see how i felt about that & maybe go another 1 or 2mm off.

It should only cost a few quid to have them machined down!

the only problems iver herd, is with 20mm going over a pot hole, the wheel will take the arch off.

im looking to have the same set up, but use 16.5mm spacers, proper anal, but ohwell.

what problems, if any did you incounter mystic?

Well the tyre sits right underneath the plastic are & the metal of the wing, so any hard bumps on soft suspension and your definitely looking at issues being 20mm out. I had koni adjustable shocks on mine on one of ths stiffest settings so i can only assume i never hit a bump big enough to send the tyre up into the arch!

I swapped back to the standard setup while i refurbed the callipers & then never fitted them again (intending to have the spacers trimmed down) because i wasnt keen on having the wheel so far out.

    Pics of clearance at 20mm:

    That is ruddy close.

ill have to think about it abit more, as there are some killer speed bumps at my college, maybe 16.5 spacers and some crazy neg camber would do the trick lol.

and i dont think the apex kit is all that stiff...

how low is your you saxo in those pics?

Well it supposed to be 40mm at the front but it looks a little lower + i've got the wheel in the pics up on blocks because i was trying to make it follow its natural path up into the arch so i could judge how close it would be over potholes.

It always going to be close though, i mean you are talking that distance in the photo or 3.5mm in, its really not much of a difference!

I guess its just a trial & error thing per car, stick the spacers on at 20mm see how it is, have them machined down as close as you can get to the calliper & then see if its any better, theres room to trim the wing & some of the plasic lip away from the arch too, otherwise its stiffer shocks/springs time or ditch the S wheels & go for something with better clearence!

I've ordered some 16mm spacers, the lad who wrote the thread has clearly achieved it that way so i'll give it a go.

Just another question, the Xantia v6 disks that are recommended, they are 288mm x 28mm, are these ok under the VTS wheels?

Its not the wheel you need to worry about with the disks, its the calliper.

The caliper is mounted closer to the hub on the saxo than it is on the 406, which is the reason the 406 uses a larger disk & we use a smaller one! The 288's still fit inside the caliper.

Sweet so the xantia v6's will fit perfectly behind my VTS wheels.

Going to get a set now then. Cheers guys.

Nothing like a tight bit of arch clearance!!!
