intermediate bearing carrier removal

  1. #1
on the driveshaft. i have a 00 vts with the bearing carrier or the driver side. there is a lot of play in the bearing. i have removed the x2 10mm nuts and have moved as far out as possible the studs. they hit the inner joint on the shaft.

i would like to remove the carrier to change the bearing or carrier etc...

i cant find a guide but some tops would be great

    stew

You just have to undo the 3 16mm (might be a different size) bolts and it'll come away from the block.

Or just rotate the hocky stick bolts out the way and pull the shaft out of the carrier (they're 11mm nuts on these too )

yup just undo the two nuts, turn the offset bolts out of the way and then pull the shaft out. The bearing can then be pulled off and replaced with a new one, or replace the whole shaft

yes the shaft is out the car. it feels like its stuck?

So the shaft it off, and you just want to remove the carrier from the engine?

It has a couple of locating dowels so need to carefully pry it off so that it comes away parallel to the engine

shaft with carier off the car together mate. i want to slide the carrier off as im sure the bearing is gone in it.

Rotate the L shape bolts so they aren't keeping the bearing in the carrier, then pull the shaft from the carrier - job done

can be tight so I found the best way was to knock the carrier away from the bearing with a rubber mallet

Try prising the shaft out between the inner cv joint can and the intermediate bearing carrier.

came off with a gentle tap.

its the bearing on the shaft that has worn not the carrier. think i will need a new shaft ?

can get a new bearing, I've replaced mine before - only cost around £200 from Citroen from memory - no point in replacing the shaft !
