Guys i own a 1.4 furio and ill readily admit im no mechanic. Trying to find an answer to a problem with the car ontop of my engine block there is a pipe connecting a black box, to the engine. Looks like it feed air into the engine basically looking to replace the top cover to of the black box so i can refit the pipe. Bodge job atm but its heating up very quickly any ideas

#2Need pictures mate, "black box" could mean any number of things in the engine bay.
-
#3pretty sure it's the breather pipe into the air intake. not too sure of the question though??

Not my engine i know the red thing at the top of the picture is an air filter. the pipe going from that into the engine block, -
#5sorry that didnt work how do i put a picture up
-
#6believe it is the breather pipe it basically has an air feed from front of car through large black pipe into a black box top of the engine which then connects via a small pipe to the actual engine block with me or am i talking gibberish

#8Sign up on www.photobucket.com and then upload the pictures onto there once they have been uploaded copy the IMG code of that picture which will be slightly under that picture and then paste it into this box and your picture will be put onto the thread.
Hope that has helped

That might b better part 3 is snapped -
#11how dangerous is my bodge job on this part
-
#12i'm so confused.
"basically trying to replace the top cover to of the black box"??? Read that back to yourself and see if it makes sense. Literally have no idea what you want to know. -
#13ok think i follow now. You've snapped part of the air filter housing and therefore the breather pipe isnt attatched. Either way shouldnt be a problem that causes over heating but your oil might be spilling out into the engine bay.
-
#14Thats your air filter inlet, that bit that is snapped joins to your throttle body.
You may get away with a temp fix, but make sure nothing can get inside that pipe other wise it will be sucked into your engine.
A new airbox will be required i think -
#153 is the oil breather - excess oil vapour is sent into the intake air so it can be burnt off.
It shouldn't affect the temp of the engine.
Is the engine is heating up quickly to normal temp or to overheat? Heater working ok? Coolant level ok/fully bled, or a funny colour? Oil level ok? Engine running ok?
It may be worth getting someone who knows about engine to have a look as your "bodge job" could end up costing more in the long run!
