Sportex Problems

  1. #1
Fitted my sportex race tube and back box today and have come across a few problems. First of all i havnt got one of those disc like things that sit on the connection of the race tube to the downpipe (i was told that my exhaust could snap becasue of this). Secondly a mechanic told me that the bore size on the race tube was different to the bore of the back box; surely that isnt right? Finally the box is sitting pretty low, do i just need to get some new of those rubber hangers?
    Cheers.

mine is sitting a bit low to after it was fitted but just havn't got round to sorting it yet probably just needing new rubbers or adjusting the bracket thing that goes round the backbox

My sportex oval was a rightfucker to sit right. Just used cable ties and got it right in the end

Im not sop concerned about getting it to sit right atm, im more worried about this disc thing that i missing which can cause my exhaust to snap! lol. Can you just buy these discs and slot them onto the centre pipe or do they have to be welded on?

Do you mean the fire gasket between the manifold and centre pipe?

I think so ye. On my standard centre section i think it was welded onto the end of pipe (manifold/downpipe side). On this new race tube it didnt have one on there and i fitted it without knowing that one needed to be on there. Is this a major problem or do i not need one?

Ok, are they just slotted on or welded? also, where can i get one from and how much? Where do you think it would be blowing from?

just slide on, any motor factor. Under £5. Blowing from the manifold to centre pipe joint

Great, cheers for the help Just one last question. When i went to get the new clamp from a local garage the mechanic told me that my back box pipe and the centre pipe were different bore sizes? Is this the case for all sportex systems, or was he talking bolocks? lol
