Urgent help needed- power steering

  1. #1
    Hi all

I replaced my power steering pump on my 2003 1.6 vtr today as although the old one was still working, it was starting to rattle really loud. I fitted my new one and filled it will fliud, i started the car and my power steering is now non existant. i did the turn the wheels lock to lock several hundred times and i treid to bleed to pipe at the highest point of the engine (behind engine infront of drivers side) but very little fluid came out. the fans and demister all work as i hear this is a problem My father reckons it is airlocked but i need advice on how to get the air out. please help

Top the fluid level up. Have the engine switched off, then slowly move the steering from lock to lock several times. Top up the fluid level and repeat the process until the fluid level does not drop any further. Then switch on the engine and move the steering from lock to lock again several more times. Keep on doing this until no bubbles can be seen coming from the fluid reservoir. If the steering still does not feel correct, then turn the wheels so that they are facing straight ahead and turn the engine off. If the fluid level rises, then there is still air in the system. Keep on repeating this process until all air has dispelled itself.

the pipe i am talking about is on the steering rack next to the lever that moves when you press the footbake. under the triangle shaped black plaqstic cover, apologise for my lack of mech knowledge
