Right have this problem but when i pull the plug on top of the alternator everything works again whilst running but obviously the battery light stays on, is it the alternator itself or the 2 pin plug on the top of it? Have just had the alternator reconditioned lst week and everything was fine after re-fitting it for a few days! Have checked all fuses and relays and all's well there. Havn't got a multi meter to check if the alternator is ok.

sure it isn't the wiring under the dash?

Do you mean the ignition switch? Have read loads of posts about this yesterday and they don't really mention the battery light on as well. When i pulled the plug on top of the alternator everything was ok again so im assuming its either the weather proof plug on top or another problem with the alternator. Its a 02 vts and tbh the wiring going into the alternator plug has seen better days!!!

if it was the wiring it would be dodgy regardless, as you're disconnecting the alternator anyway aren't you?

Over the last 2 days i have gone through everything on here regarding this problem and if unplugging the twin weatherproof plug on the alternator whilst the car is running solves all of the problems then it can only mean one of two things, either the alternator has another problem ie the resistor or the top plug connections are knackered!! As i don't have a multimeter i cant test the alternator to see if its charging the battery so i don't really want to drive it to the auto electrics where i got the alternator re-conditioned in case it fucks up on the way.

if you can get someone to follow you and drive it, that way if it dies you can just quickly bump it and go again.

confused about the plug though, as surely when you unplug it the alternator doesn't work?

Exactly that, when it is unplugged it is running off the battery which is also brand new so it has to be the alternator or the plug. If it was another problem then it would continue after the alternator has been unplugged. Will ring the auto electrics in the morning and book it in i think! Fucking french shit!!

try bridging some wire from a bit further up the loom onto the connectors (the right way round of course!) to see if it works

i'm probably guessing the alternators dodgy. drive it about with it connected and if it dies, it definately it.

Good thinking mate will try that tomorrow, cheers bud.
