engine managment light

  1. #1
engine managment light lit up on my car, plugged in the code reader, looked up the code and it says, cat effiency below threshold bank 1, does anyone know what that means ??
  2. #2
your catalytic converter isnt working right, probaly need replacing
  3. #3
Yeah mate your CAT needs replacing. Think yours is in the manifold.
  4. #4
if it a mk2 it in the manifold, so that will mean new manifold wont it? cause there built in, tho some early mk2 have under car, what reg is your car? up to W reg it prob under car, anything after it in manifold

had exactly same thing happen on my mrs saxo very recently....replaced cat and full exhaust...seems ok now
  6. #6
only had a new cat and full exhaust 5 months ago
  7. #7
could be a fautly lamba sensor then, or you could be unlucky and the cat gone again, was it a new cat or second hand?
  8. #8
try lambda sensor...shows as same fault code...also damn site cheaper to buy
  9. #9
brand new, light has come 3 times now, had the car serviced last month and never came on before then.
  10. #10
    lamba about £50 new
  11. #11
sorry if i sound thick, but what amd where does that go ?
  12. #12
maybe there knocked the lamba when servicing it and damage it, i would start with that mate, get a new lamba sensor, start with the cheapest first, it can only really be that or cat and since you said cat new, my money on sensor
  13. #13
have same problem with mine at the moment just had the top sensor changed light came back on after 150 miles in to have other sensor changed this week fingers crossed this will sort it new sensor (uprated one ) cost me £140 fitted so by next week end £280 hopefully i wont have to change the cat after that
  14. #14
yes cheapest first is good, hope it is that and not the cat
  15. #15
the lamba goes in the manifold and checks the exhaust emmissions, if the emission to high then your engine management light will come on, so it could be faulty
  16. #16
you would be very unlucky for a cat to go after 5 months, unless you drive the car alot, and i mean alot lol
  17. #17
i agree with dankzy..would be very unlucky to be cat again..they dont go that quick...sensor is located further down pipe below the cat....i think
  18. #18
    ah ok thank you.
  19. #19
dont drive the car much, have done a 1000 miles maybe since having the cat fitted
  20. #20
there are 2 one before cat (bank 2 i think ) and one after
