Mis-Firing + Petrol Smell

  1. #1
    Hey,

My car was fine on Friday, then i left it while i went on Holiday for 2 Days .. Came to start it last night and its mis-firing really bad!..

And a strong smell of petrol?

    Don't know what could be?

I changed all spark plugs etc as did full service around 2k Miles ago?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance..

I left mine for a day and came back to find the bolts on the exhaust part just infront of the engine had come loose, causing it to be loud and smelt of petrol lol..try them. not coming out of the engine, going into the downpipe

Could possibly be lambda sensor, but could also be alot of other things, engine temp sensor, air temp sensor, fuel leak, air leak. There's loads mate

but tbh your best getting diagnostics on to diagnose the problem as you could spend 50quid on lambda and it won't cure it then 70quid on coilpack and still doesn't cure it, then you go for diagnostics and find it's a poxy engine temp sensor that would have cost 10-15quid.

With this sort of problem o wouldn't do trial and error as it can get expensive. Just pay for diagnostics which I think most garages will charge like 40-50quid for an hour, or if you sly some cash they may do it cheaper cause tbh it only tales about 15mins to read the ecu as I have diagnostics on mine all the time
and never take more than half hour to have a good scan through all the readings.

    Hope that helps

Unless you have someone with the same components you can borrow off then I would also recommend getting a diagnotics test. I had this same problem and changed all the cheap sensors before getting the test done to tell me it was the lambda.

ok i had this on my 106 a couple of days ago and started a list of things to do you can do thse yourself and theyll be worth changing anyway as its not too expensive

Fuel Filter my be clogged up
    Air filter again clogged up
what it finally was was the spark plugs and leads
but i also too brakets off my exhaust sanded down the area that join and put some more exhaust sealant on them aswell

all easy fixes and probably all comes to 40 quid excluding the air filter if you want aftermarket one if its not these then get it tested

Thanks for all help, ill get a diganostic done but has a dastek ecu? So will a normal garage be able to read it?

Also I did full service so can't imagine it being plugs, fuel filter etc?

    Cheers,

fair enough then id get it tested and leave it to the garages as for ecu and being able to read it i guess youd have to let them know and see whether they could or not as some will have diagnostic tools others dont.

Try coolant temp sensor first,it was problem im my case with symtoms as you desribed, was strongly overfuelled, sensor sent to the ECU that is -40 °C
