panel filters?????

    ive just bought my second vts, its an 03 model, and i was just wondering what people think the best panel filter would be to get a nice sound and abit more performance???????

    anyone?

    Looked at green but there almost double the money, of a K'n'N. I've got a KnN and seems to do the job fine.

    cheers guys, ive order a k&n one, £27.99 i think thats a gd price brand new. alot of my mates reckon that keeoing your stand air box and just changing the filter imakes more difference than fitting an induction kit? i had a viper pipercross one on my old vts but that ran like a bag of s**t and drank alot of fuel, wat do think?????

    panel filters are far far better than any induction kit or air filter

    You're mates speak sence.

    No enclosed aftermarket induction is an improvement on the standard airbox.

    And don't waste your time fitting a open air induction unless your planning on doing trackdays all the time.

    Open air filters need a good supply of cold air or they soak up heat from the engine bay. so unless your always moving to provide this air you are more likley to see a decrease in power. So not very good for road use.

    Hmm i am still a firm believer that some induction kits are definetly better than standard, i know that the standard airbox on my VTR is so twisty etc that i has to restrict the airflow.

    Oh really? I never knew. Why would that be any different from track and road use though?

    Because your very unlikly to come to a set of red lights or a old woman on a zebra crossing at donnigton?

    And stopping for a few seconds at the lights kills your performance even though your not moving? And what about when you get going again which is when it actually matters about how cold the air is?

    I'm confused? Moving in start stop traffic causes heat build up in the engine bay that the filter soaks up. No supply of cold air to the filter is detremental in all aspects of engine performance from bhp to economy, the only way your going to see benifits from an open air type induction is if your always moving quick enough to get enough supply of cold air to the filter.
    And even then your proberly only going to match the performance of the standard air box.

    ..or so i'm led to belive?

    Yes, but once you are actually driving again what happens? Cold air begins to circulate, aswell as come through any cold air feeds or ducting you have.

    In traffic your performance doesn't really matter does it.

    Exactly so the few hundred quid you just spent fitting an open air induction to a road car was completly pointless because the chances are your going to be stopping alot?

    I just don't see the benifit of an open air induction over the panel filter to my car, sorry.

    My pipercross induction kit was £15

    And you can get BMC CDAs for around £120 on here second hand, add a £10 cold air feed and it is a awsome setup tbh
