Important! : burnt wires how do i repair?

    hey guys,

    i was recently doing some work on my car when i noticed i leant some wires up against the engine when hot. obviously the wires got burnt but they didnt burn completely full so i just put tape over them. i noticed that these wires were connected to the alternator, and since they have been burnt my alternator hasnt been charging my battery properly, as my bat is completely dead now, does any one know how i replace or repair them?? also my car wont start up do you think the problems could be linked i chraged my battery completly full yet car still wont start when cold (well it does but takes ages)?

    You can test the wires using a multi-meter for continuity. But the best thing to do is cut the supected wires and re-splice them with new and same diameter wire. It may not be possible to keep to the exact colour of wire but make sure it is the same amperage rated wire.

    As above, may I suggest a soldered joint or crimping. You can buy heat shrinkl that will slide over the wire before it is reconnected and then when heated with a lighter/hair dryer etc will shrink onto the wire and isulate the joint.
