Heaters not working? What's the problem and how to fix it?

  1. #1
Hi again guys, todays problem I want to sort out is the heaters!

They simply... don't work, obviously when the cars running you get a small bit of heat through from th eengine but thats it.

It's not an issue untill the likes of last night when I had to be wiping the windscreen every 100m to see where I was going

I havn't a clue where to start or what it is, so any ideas as to what needs replaced would be brilliant!

If it helps, the blower thing doesnt work - A case of a new heater blower? I don't know.

Help! - I know theres a few guys on here wanting a few answers to this too,

    Thanks,
    Chris

The first and easiest cheapest option is to check the heater units fuse. This is fuse 2 rated at 25A. The fuse will be found in the passengers compartment and go from there.

Found the only two fuse's which were 25A in that compartment, swapped them with the 25A fuses from my amp and nothing changed. Whats the next plan of action?

Could be the switch thats gone or connectors to the switch has worked loose. Think it just pops out. Might be worth checking/swapping out. Should find one in a scrap yard.

    could be heater matrix
  6. #6
could be the heater matrix which is located behind the engine

Next thing sounds like the heater matrix, I've got pleanty of time so I'll try pick up a spare matrix and a haynes(sp?) manual & give it a go! As I know its a take the whole dash out job no?

    K seal? whats that mate?

Like rad weld, welds up your heater core/matrix as a temp fix.

I see, i'll look into that too! Cheers Andy

could be the good old terminals at ignition under the steering column. if you search or ask about it. i think it's the brown block, just bridge the terminals to fix. i know that that is a solution to electric going, such as the heater and power steering
  13. #13
if it was the heater matrix it would be leaking water and the fan blower would stil work it has to be either the blower itself or an electrical problem if you get a volt metre and check that the blower is getting power to it then that should tell you
  14. #14
Okay so narrowed down to the blower itself, or an electrical problem.

I'd imagine if the blower had no voltage going to it, it's the wiring that needs sorting?

That thing you mentioned about bridging the terminals? What do you mean? joining hem back together or somethig? I'll have a search then have a look in the car!

    Thanks alot, keep it coming

Just disconnect the connector and join the two wires together. there are 3 connecotrs under the steering column. they come from the ignition barrel. the middle one is the one. i think it's brown. it's an official citroen dealer fix
  16. #16
obviously join the two together on the left side of the connector

Alright I thik i know what you mean, I had a quick search and found a huge thread from a year or two ago about PAS/ heater fan/ rear demister... This mod is apparently only for when all three arent working? Mines litterally just the heater fan and i'd imagine the demisters as I can't see where im going at night or when its cold

I've picked up something about the connection to the fan above the exellerator pedal so will have a look at that.

Ive got a soldering kit so could easily try the mod your on about mate, but in that thread it seemed like it was only to be done if the power steering was shot aswell & I dont want to be messing around and breaking that too!

    Cheers

You'll never believe what the problem was!! Just nipped out there to have a look at the connection thats apparently above the accelerator pedal... Once i got my neck to resemble that of an owl - Found a connection, just dangling and a plug, just above it.

Plugged that in and what do you know, the b*tch works! Honestly so relieved it was just a case of plugging it back in, was reading things about guys replacing the ignition barrels for £120 and things.

Thanks alot guys, once again you were a great help!
One more thing off the list of jobs
