Top Mounts for CoilOver + Other Questions..

  1. #1
    Few questions here:

What top mounts would i have to get for my coilovers? I got the RallyDesign Weld on kit fitted..

Also Do i need to drill out the this so that it goes over the damper and fits the spring?

    Should sit like this:

The Thread on the damper dosent fit through, so does it need drilling out so its the corrent size for the whole damper bit thts inside the spring?

Finally, these need to be the otherway round right?

    1. What Top Mounts for this 2.25ID kit?
    2. Do i need to drill that top spring pan out?
    3. The cup and the other ring thing need to be the other way round right?

    Thanks

compbrake ones are what ive got.

and yes, would do need to swap them round, you have the locking nut on top of the spring pan, when it should be the other way round.

Yep those 2 collars do need to be swapped round.

The top mount bit can be binned if you get that adapter bit which Alex can get, as the adaptor bit is used which houses the standard bearing then combine that with Pugsport top mounts and jobs a gudden

willsy are these the top spring pan for standard mounts?

Nope theyre not the ones Frankie.

They are the same as the ones in this pic, only 2.25 ID, not 2.5 ID

Thanks for your first post Frankie, so i need to drill the hole so the threaded bit fits through the hole aint it?

Im thinking my springs are too short?

i dont know, as mine came like it...

also with the topmounts i suggested they have 1 degree on negative camber

    cheers willsy

Oye thats the other question i was going to ask you. Are you using 2.25I.D with the compbrakes?

Im guessing the top spring pan i have goes into some sort of bearing cup thats on the compbrake top mount right?

    Here's how it looks assembled

  11. #11
    im using 2.25" id yes.

mine just sat on top of the top spring pan, which i wasnt to keen on tbh.

also i need to have the thread extended 10mm to go through the top spring pan and then through the top mount
  12. #12
Hang on...once i get the top mounts and bearing cup (if there is one on top of this spring pan etc) then there wont be the gap between the spring and the bearing cup on full extension will there? I think i get it now, i just need it all put together to understand i think lol.

Was no replied before i wrote this one, so it might be wrong.

EDIT or not, im thinking wrong.

Right..so i need to drill the hole out so the threaded bit fits through it, possibly get it extended to fit through thr top mount aswell.

So that would mean my springs are too short aint they, as if i jack the car up the damper will extend and come unseated right?

Right so this is the plan:

Drill out the top spring pan to fit the threaded damper bit through.

Order helper springs and the doubler seat bit to take up the slack? Or send my springs back and get either 8" or 9".

    Correct?

Just measured the difference between the bottom spring pan and to when the damper is fully extended and its 9" which would make sense as the GrpN springs that come from special tuning are 9" which are suited to these Dampers im using.

i plan on using 7" dampers.

the lad i bought mine from used the same with a 300lb rating using the peugeot sport dampers

God knows, couse my 7" springs are obviously too short aint they.

a 9" 2.5I.D spring from special tuning will still be the same length as a 9" 2.25I.D spring.

From measuring my damper length to the bottom spring pan theyre definatly a 9" gap when the damper is at full extended length.

Any spring less than this would surley come unseated at full extension?

Helper springs are commonly used to take up the extra to prevent springs from unseating.

With those top mounts and helper adaptors you will get them hitting each other before the helper compresses all the way and they will knock. Willsy gets it Lea go it, simoky because the helpers dont come very long usualy.
