Is it as simple as...?

I have recently bought some VTR alloys from saxperience member willo-1 (Who I have thanked like 1,000,000 times lol) and UPS say that they'll come tomorrow... I currently have normal wheels with hubcaps on... Please say its a simple job of just taking the wheels off, and putting the VTR's on? Help please because tomorrow is my only day off so i really want to fit them by tomorrow night without spending 20 pounds in a bloody garage. (By the way, the alloys come with all the bolts etc) Diolch Yn Fawr (thank you from the welsh) lol

Use the correct jack points and chock the wheels to be extra careful.

crack off the bolts before you jack up the car.

also some tires have a directional tread so only should be put on the right side of the car or the left hand side

tighten opposite sides. by this i mean tighten (not fully) one bolt, then tighten the opposite bolt then the ones either side.

    whoops!

as said already, jack up from correct points, before jacking crack all bolts, than jack. and when untightning the bolts do it from opposite sides

    Haha i know

I've only got English level 3 gcse's, but i work as a gas engineer and work with bolted flanges every day

tighten them after 100 miles just to make sure they are tight. make sure bolts are long enough but i think that is only a problem with VTS wheels

okay thanks for your help guys I've done it now.. though whilst i was driving, The steering felt really wobbly... so i'm guessing they need to be balenced out properly? so i'll have to take it to the garage
  20. #20
    yeah sounds like balancing mate..
  21. #21
its changing wheels not rocket science lol
  22. #22
Yeah but when you change all 4 wheels, you notice that they arent balenced out properly
  23. #23
is there seriously people out there who own cars and dont know how to put on wheels?? They shouldnt be driving if there is.
  24. #24
Can't believe folk don't know how to change wheels. Theres a danger they will not tighten the bolts enough, I know my son is a little cautious with the wrench. The bolts should be 90Nm on alloys. By arm that means tighten till contact and I guess about a quarter turn extra or by feel....

i never said i couldnt change the wheel. im just saying i didnt want to cock it up, but they now need balancing
