18 MPG! help?

  1. #1
All time lowest MPG which has slowly deteriorated now lol.
car hasnt been serviced for 8,000 miles but still..seriously.. 18 MPG
no engine management lights on engine is tuned (PT40 cams) but still see no real reason for it to be this low.

Throttle is very jerky on/off at low revs and seems to have lost some power recently

could is be MAP/MAF sensor? Just thinking something like injectors or lambda sensor would cause Engine management light to be on wouldn't they?

    Thats driving fairly reasonably too..

Mate that is really poor lol !! you sure its not that because fuels gone up you thoguht it was eating it faster when its just costing more ?? i had that problem lol it wasn't the car eating fuel it was the tax on fuel eating my wallet haha

get a diagnostic check mate, could still be a fault somewhere even though your management light isn't on.

You could do with having the plugs out first mate to help see what's happening but I'd try cleaning the throttle body out and injectors first before you spend any dosh. Also is it idleing strange at all, I know you mentioned it's cammed but is it ticking over different or down on power, any flat spotting or harder to start when cold?

it does feel down on power, sort of struggling... hard to describe, not as free revving sorta.. still really easy start

Give it a full service and strip the throttle body/ any sensors on the inlet down for a clean... particularly the MAP sensor.

If you don't see any improvement, next port of call would be a new pre-CAT lambda sensor.

just an idea... i dont suppose you have checked for a fuel leak? it would make the fuel and the running thing unrelated... but worth checking!

Ive had a look mate, nothing blatently obvious... i go days without driving the car too so a puddle would probably be noticable and also the gauge doesn't change
